We at DKR, active since 1983 in the construction and maintenance of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drinkatering.com\/en\/office-water-dispensers-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">office water dispensers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drinkatering.com\/en\/water-dispensers-in-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">schools<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> e <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drinkatering.com\/en\/products-category\/horeca-resort-water-dispensers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Horeca sector<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we know that this aspect cannot be neglected. Since 1996 we have been realising <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drinkatering.com\/en\/products-category\/house-water\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Water Houses<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and we also handle their revamping, as happened with those installed at Expo 2015. This experience has taught us how crucial it is to maintain high maintenance standards to ensure the longevity and efficiency of the systems.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The crucial importance of maintenance in water supply systems<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any dispensing system that provides a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drinkatering.com\/en\/water-dispenser-office-purification-filtration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>filtration treatment<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or even just cooling, modifies the characteristics of the drinking water supplied by the water provider. For this reason, it must be subjected to rigorous controls and periodic checks. Water is a foodstuff and its modification must not be dangerous for the user who drinks it. In particular, regulations require that the modification does not worsen the quality of the water for food use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is why the control and prevention system for food processing chains was created, whereby the risks in terms of bacteriological pollution, contamination and critical points of each process are thought out and studied. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drinkatering.com\/en\/evolution-drinking-water-regulations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Legislative Decree 18 of 23 February 2023<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> represents the main point of reference, classifying installations into different categories based on the level of risk and the environment of use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The regulations identify the most critical environments and divide them into categories, starting with the most critical:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hospitals and old people's homes\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Condominiums and housing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Workplaces and schools with food production and canteens<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Workplaces without canteen and food production<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In terms of categories, the last two are of most interest to us. The first is subject to food jurisdiction, and the treatment process is subject to HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points). In <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.confcommercio.it\/-\/haccp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HACCP protocol<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a natural person or company, who assumes the role of FBO (Food Business Operator), must be indicated as the person responsible for verification and quality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second category is subject to the <\/span><b>food safety<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which in any case provide for checks on the system, maintenance and analyses to verify that the result of the system's operation is protective of the health of those who use it.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Water as a vital element: risks and opportunities<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When talking about water, you often hear the argument that water is the source of life, or that life originates from water, or that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drinkatering.com\/en\/world-day-to-combat-desertification-drought\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">there can be no life on a planet without water<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. These sentences highlight how important water is for human life, but in detail, they also emphasise that water, if not subjected to adequate treatments, quickly changes, creating bacteria, mould, fungi, and many other life forms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tap water counteracts these formations with <\/span><b>a careful choice of sources or<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">where this is not possible, with purification systems first and bacterial proliferation control later. Chlorine and other antibacterial substances are introduced into the water supply to <\/span><b>keeping water safe during transport<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In point-of-use water irrigation systems \u2013 whether they are dispensers in businesses or schools, or Water Houses in public squares \u2013 filtration organoleptically modifies the qualities of the dispensed water, eliminating tastes, odours and chemical products including chlorine.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Critical points in the maintenance of water supply systems<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The filter, coils and delivery point are <\/span><b>in constant contact with water<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Water, as we were saying earlier, if not covered with an antibacterial agent, can easily change. Stagnation, heat, and poor hygiene can facilitate the spread and proliferation of bacteria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La <\/span><b>maintenance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, regularly by qualified personnel, ensures that a favourable environment for bacteria is not created. The pipes, taps and fittings are cleaned with special material that is inserted into the system and left in contact for the necessary time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Filters must also be replaced, which can become saturated if they are not changed. A saturated filter no longer does its job, but rather becomes a source of bacterial proliferation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Particular attention must be paid to the ultraviolet lamp, which in a system performs the function of a bactericide. To function correctly, it must ensure adequate contact between the water and the UV rays it produces and emits. For this reason, it must be cleaned at least every 6 months and replaced once a year.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Frequency and modalities of interventions<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To verify that everything has been done correctly, it is good practice to take a sample and have it analysed bacteriologically by an authorised laboratory, which will certify the quality of the work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In working environments without food production, we recommend:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bacteriological analysis at least once a year<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cleaning UV lamps every 6 months<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Annual UV lamp replacement<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Filter change according to specific instructions and conditions of use<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Complete sanitisation of the plant at regular intervals<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le <\/span><b>bacteriological analyses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are compulsory in all cases.
